Biography

Dr. Jerald Ogg is a professor in the Department of Mass Media and Strategic Communication at UT Martin and director of the Tennessee Governor's School for the Humanities. He has also served as chair of the UT Martin Department of Communications, dean of the College of Humanities and Fine Arts, interim vice chancellor for Student Affairs and provost/vice chancellor for Academic Affairs.

Dr. Ogg holds bachelor's degrees in communications and political science from UT Martin, a master's in journalism from Louisiana State University, a Ph.D. in journalism from Southern Illinois University and a law degree (J.D.) from UT Knoxville. He has taught communication law, ethics, news writing, media history, feature and editorial writing, public relations, crisis communication, public speaking and advertising at UT Martin. A recipient of the UT Alumni Association Outstanding Teaching Award and past president of the Faculty Senate, he is also a graduate of both the UT Leadership Institute and WestStar, West Tennessee’s premier leadership development program.

Prior to joining the faculty at UT Martin, Dr. Ogg served as a judge advocate ("JAG") in the U.S. Air Force and practiced law in Baton Rouge, La. He retired as a colonel in the U.S. Air Force Reserve.
